Your complete guide to where to stay in Mallorca (from the best places in Palma to top beachfront and half-board hotels in Alcudia and Cala Bona).
Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, sits in the heart of the western Mediterranean. The dramatic Tramuntana mountains stretch along the island’s west coast, offering incredible views and hiking trails. This is also where you’ll find some of the island’s prettiest villages, including Deià, Sóller, and Valldemossa. Up north, Mallorca’s coastline is all about long, pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Head east and you’ll find hidden coves and sandy little bays framed by cliffs, with beautiful spots like Cala d’Or. Down south is Palma, the island’s capital city.
With so much to see, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when choosing where to stay in Mallorca. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! In this guide, you’ll find the best places to stay on the island, whether you’re after beaches, nightlife, or the top hotels in Palma.
Where I stayed in Mallorca
During my one-week stay in Mallorca, I decided to split my time between two locations – Palma, the main town, and Alcúdia, a great beach town. I wanted a bit of everything: exploring the island, but also enjoying a beach vacation without long bus rides. Choosing Palma and Alcúdia gave me the best of both worlds – the lively city vibe and relaxed beach days. I could also get around the island easily without a car.
💖 My favourite hotel in Palma: Hotel Basilica (central location, great rooftop terrace with pool)
My favourite beachfront hotel in Mallorca: Viva Golf (right on the beach, nice swimming pool)
I have to admit, finding a great hotel in Palma (the island’s main city) was easy – Hotel Basilica was perfect. However, hunting for an amazing beachfront hotel in Alcúdia, or anywhere on the island, was a whole different story. I almost gave up and started checking out hotels in Greece! I usually stick to places with a 9+ rating on Booking, and in Mallorca, they’re not that common.
Luckily, I finally found Viva Golf and loved its location right on the beach. It was super easy to reach from Palma by bus, and just a short walk to Alcúdia town. I loved that the sunbeds were spaced out – a total must for me. The room had a fantastic view, and the food was solid. If you’re looking to splurge a little, I’d definitely recommend the Selection Club Royal Terrace Rooftop – it even comes with your own plunge pool!
Readers’ most booked hotel in Mallorca
Searching for a great hotel with a pool and a convenient location? Take a look at Protur Naisa Hotel – with over 4,600 reviews, it’s the most booked hotel on the island.
Protur Naisa Hotel – Most booked hotel
If you’re planning to stay in Mallorca’s main city, Palma, Protur Naisa Hotel is the best option. The hotel is perfectly located on a quiet side street, just a short stroll from the old town and shopping areas. The spa is a treat, featuring a Turkish bath, sauna, saltwater pool with jacuzzi, and an ice fountain. Plus, the rooftop pool (heated in winter) comes with a Sky Bar and amazing city views. There’s also secure parking and bike rentals, making it super easy to explore Palma.

Where to stay in Mallorca, Spain (My top picks)
- Palma de Mallorca – without a car (Hotel Almudaina – best hotel in Palma)
- Port d’Alcúdia – for the best beaches (Grupotel Maritimo – best half-board hotel in Alcúdia)
- Best hotel in Cala Bona and Cala Millor – Hipotels Flamenco (half-board)
- Magaluf – for nightlife (Hotel Florida – best hotel in Magaluf)
- Port de Pollença – for cycling (La Goleta Hotel de Mar – best hotel in Port de Pollença)
- Best hotel near Palma Airport – Hotel Las Arenas (beachfront)
Tips for booking a hotel in Mallorca
Don’t stay in one place (if your trip is longer than 3-4 days) – Mallorca is a big island, so if you want to explore much of it, I’d recommend choosing two accommodations – one in Palma and another next to the beach. This will save you a lot of driving time, and you’ll have the beach just steps away.
First time in the city? Check out my full itinerary for 3 days in Mallorca, which covers all must-see places, the best beaches and my favourite restaurants.
All-inclusive or half-board – I’d recommend going for half-board, unless you’re travelling with kids. The reason is that while there are plenty of half-board hotels, true all-inclusive options are limited across the island. And most of them don’t have the best reviews. In this blog post, you’ll find several excellent half-board hotels that are worth checking out.
Palma – where to stay in Mallorca without a car
If you’re visiting Mallorca without a car, Palma, the island’s lively capital, is by far the best place to stay. Situated in the southwest of the island, the city is home to Palma de Mallorca Airport, one of the busiest airports in Spain. Also, Palma is well-linked with public transportation, making it easy to explore the entire island from here.
Palma de Mallorca, also known as Palma, is famous for its historical charm, stunning architecture, and lively atmosphere. The Old Town (Casco Antiguo) is compact and easily walkable, making it perfect for a weekend getaway. It is a maze of narrow cobblestone streets, charming squares (such as Plaça de Cort) and historic buildings.
Palma has several landmarks, including La Seu (the breathtaking Gothic cathedral) and the Almudaina Palace, which was originally a Moorish fortress. And if you’re a shopping enthusiast, head to Paseo del Borne and Avinguda Jaume III, home to high-end boutiques and many international brands.
The best area to stay in Palma de Mallorca is between La Seu, located at the waterfront, and Estació Intermodal (Intermodal Station). You’ll be just a short walk from numerous restaurants, bars and the city’s most popular attractions, including Almudaina Palace, Plaça de Cort and the cathedral. For day trips, simply head to the Intermodal Station, where you can catch a bus to the famous villages of Valldemossa, Sóller or Deià. During my few days in Palma, I stayed here and loved the convenience of the area, with everything right on my doorstep.
Don’t miss out! Book a skip-the-line ticket to the Cathedral of Mallorca. It’s the island’s most popular attraction, and lines are huge – save hours and get straight inside.
Why stay in Palma de Mallorca
- Palma is the best place to stay in Mallorca without a car, for a long weekend or for first-timers
- explore the spectacular south coast and its beautiful coves on this Catamaran Cruise with swimming and snorkelling (over 10,000 great reviews)
- Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is just a short bus ride away (20min journey via A1 bus line)
- well-connected to the entire island through an extensive bus network, operated by TIB, Transport de les Illes Balears (30min journey to Valldemossa on bus line 203, 30min to Sóller on bus line 204, 1h to Alcúdia on bus line 302)
- numerous excellent restaurants – for the best brunch in town head to Café Noti, and for delicious tapas, try El Camino or Wine & Food Restaurant

The only downside is that Palma’s city centre doesn’t have its own beach. The closest one, C’an Pere Antoni, lies just outside the city centre. So if you stay in Palma, you’ll be about a 15–30 minute walk from the sand, depending on your hotel’s location. A 10-minute walk from C’an Pere Antoni, you’ll find Playa de Palma, the longest and lively beach near Palma. Other popular beaches near the city are Cala Major and Can Pastilla (both 30min bus ride away).

Port d’Alcúdia – Where to stay in Mallorca for the best beaches
Mallorca has more than 200 beaches, ranging from secluded coves to sandy shores with crystal waters. Some of the island’s most picturesque beaches include Es Trenc, Platja de Formentor, Caló del Moro, Cala Mesquida and Cala d’Or. However, the longest stretch of sandy coastline in Mallorca is found at Alcúdia Beach and Playa de Muro.
The best place to stay in Mallorca for the finest beaches on the island is Port d’Alcúdia. The port is home to Alcúdia Beach and Playa de Muro, which together form the largest beach on the island (approximately 10km or 6.2 miles). Both beaches feature fine white sand and shallow clear blue waters – ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. There are numerous beachfront hotels and resorts for families or adults only.
Port d’Alcúdia is situated on the Bay of Alcúdia, one of the largest bays in the Balearic Islands. The nearby town, Alcúdia, is a charming historic area with narrow cobblestone streets, 14th-century medieval walls and Roman ruins. It’s a great place to explore the local culture, visit historic sites, and enjoy traditional Spanish cuisine. There is also a weekly market, held on Tuesdays and Sundays, which is one of the largest in Mallorca.
A short drive from Port d’Alcúdia, you’ll find Cap de Formentor (featuring some of the best views of the island) and S’Albufera Natural Park (wetland area, perfect for nature lovers and bird watching). And if you want a break from the beach, head to Hidropark Alcúdia, a large waterpark with water slides, wave pools and a lazy river.
While Mallorca has numerous stunning beaches, I opted to stay in Port d’Alcúdia because it has the longest sandy beach on the island! Additionally, I enjoyed the extra dining and shopping options in the nearby town of Alcúdia (which was within walking distance).
Why stay in Port d’Alcúdia for the best beaches
- Port d’Alcúdia is home to the longest beaches in Mallorca – Alcúdia Beach and Playa de Muro
- beaches are sandy with crystal shallow waters, perfect for sunbathing and swimming
- Port d’Alcúdia is easily accessible from Palma (bus 302 from Intermodal Station) and directly from Palma de Mallorca Airport (bus line A32)
- plenty of fantastic restaurants – for delicious local cuisine, check out Can Matevet Restaurante Vermutería and Bodega Ca’n Pantina, and for a tasty breakfast, stop at Manjares

You’ve got two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, a hot tub, and even a tennis court to keep you busy. Breakfast is tasty, and the themed dinner nights with performances make evenings really enjoyable!
Hotel Astoria Playa – Best adults-only

The spa is amazing, with an outdoor swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and salt cave – you’ll leave totally relaxed. Breakfast is a treat too, with local goodies like Mahón cheese, ensaïmada, fresh farmer’s bread, and freshly squeezed juices.
Bonavida Apartments – Best apartment
Bonavida Apartments is a gorgeous spot right on Alcúdia Beach. The apartments are quiet and come with a fully equipped kitchen, daily cleaning, and a tasty breakfast. If you’re after sea views, go for Bonavida PALMS, and if you’d rather have access to a pool, book at Bonavida PINES – the two are right next to each other. Plus, you can grab free beach towels at reception, which is always a bonus!

Best hotels in Cala Bona and Cala Millor
If you’re looking for a quieter alternative to Alcúdia, Cala Bona and Cala Millor are perfect picks. Cala Bona used to be a small fishing village on the island’s east coast and has grown into a relaxed little resort town. There’s a pretty seafront lined with palm trees and a tiny marina filled with fishing boats and yachts. The beaches here are small and sandy, more like cosy coves than long stretches, but the water is calm and crystal-clear.
Just a short walk away is the livelier Cala Millor, with its long sandy beach, plenty of shops, and restaurants. It’s ideal if you want a mix of chilled-out beach time with a bit of nightlife or shopping.
The two resorts (Cala Bona and Cala Millor) sit right next to each other, almost blending into one, so it’s super easy to wander from one to the other. Still, if you’re trying to choose, I’d lean toward Cala Millor – the beach is bigger, nicer, and there’s lots of space to relax. The hotels here are also a bit fancier, and it’s easy to find something that fits your taste and budget. With that in mind, here are my top picks for hotels in Cala Bona and Cala Millor.
Hipotels Flamenco – Most popular half-board
Recently renovated, this half-board hotel sits right on the beachfront, just steps from Cala Millor Beach. You can relax by the outdoor pool, take a dip in the indoor pool, or unwind in the sauna. Dinner is a real treat, with a daily-changing menu that includes plenty of local specialities.
CM Playa del Moro – Best half-board
Tucked away on a quiet street in the heart of Cala Millor, this hotel is right on the beach. The outdoor pool looks over Cala Millor bay, and the rooms offer gorgeous sea views. The spa area is great, with an indoor heated pool, sauna, and Turkish bath. Don’t miss the Moments Café for amazing coffee, ice cream, and the best brunch in town. Dinner is great too, with themed evenings every night!
Hipotels Hipocampo Palace & Spa – Best 5-star
Hipotels Hipocampo Palace is the only 5-star hotel in both Cala Millor and Cala Bona. Recently renovated, this luxurious half-board hotel is set among tropical gardens. You can enjoy the outdoor swimming pool, heated indoor pool, sauna, and Turkish bath, or play a match on the tennis court. The evening entertainment program is excellent, with a gala dinner on Fridays as the highlight.

Magaluf – the best place to stay in Mallorca for nightlife
The best place to stay in Mallorca for nightlife is Magaluf. This popular resort, home to numerous nightclubs, bars and lively restaurants, is the island’s party capital. The nightlife scene often features international DJs, themed parties, and beachfront events.
Magaluf is situated on the island’s southwestern coast, about 15 kilometres (9 miles) southwest of the capital city, Palma. Famous for its vibrant and dynamic nightlife, it attracts a younger and more energetic crowd. The town also features a long sandy beach with clear water, Platja de Magaluf. Along the beachfront, you’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars and nightclubs, such as the trendy Nikki Beach Mallorca. The most popular areas for nightlife are Magaluf Square and Carrer Punta Ballena.

The Tramuntana Mountains, situated in the northern part of the island, offer some of the best cycling experiences in Mallorca. Some of the most popular routes include Serra de Tramuntana, Cap de Formentor, Puig Major, Sa Calobra and Coll de Sóller. That’s why if you’re searching for a cycling base, I’d recommend opting for accommodations in the north of the island. Moreover, most of the hotels here are accustomed to cyclists and often cater to riders.
The best area to stay in Mallorca for cycling is Port de Pollença. The port serves as a gateway to the Tramuntana mountain range, known for its winding mountain roads and breathtaking scenery. Best hotels near Palma Airport
Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is the main gateway to Mallorca and one of Spain’s busiest airports. Located about 8 km east of Palma city centre, it’s easily accessible by car, taxi (around €25), or bus A1.
Normally, I don’t recommend staying near the airport, even with an early flight or late arrival. I like to enjoy every last minute of a trip. But Mallorca is a little different. The reason is that there are gorgeous beaches (Can Pastilla, S’Arenal and Es Carnatge Beach) less than 10 minutes from Palma Airport! You can easily spend your last day or two soaking up the sun and sea, while still being just minutes from your flight. That means less rushing, no early-morning taxi stress, and no worrying about traffic.
One thing to keep in mind: there’s no hotel right at Palma de Mallorca Airport. The closest options are a 5–10 minute taxi ride away. So yes, you’ll need a taxi, but the good news is that you’ll be just a 5-minute walk from the beach. It’s perfect for a last swim before your flight! With that in mind, here are the best hotels to stay near Palma Airport.
Hotel Las Arenas – Most popular 4-star
Right on Can Pastilla Beach, this hotel is just a quick taxi ride from the airport, or you can catch bus A2 nearby. There are two swimming pools and a rooftop Sky Bar with stunning sea views. And if you love tapas, you’re in luck – some of the best spots are just around the corner.
AluaSoul Hotel – Best rated 4-star
Located just a 10-minute walk from Cala Estància Beach, AluaSoul Hotel is another great option just a short ride from the airport. You can relax by the seasonal outdoor pool while enjoying beautiful sea views. I’d recommend booking a My Favorite Club Room. It comes with free drinks and snacks in the lounge, plus access to the rooftop pool and bar!
Helios Hotel & Apartments – Best 3-star
Just a 2-minute walk from Can Pastilla, Helios Hotel is a great budget-friendly choice. The hotel also offers apartments if you’re looking for a bit more space. You’ll find two pools here – an indoor one and a large outdoor pool with a sunny terrace for lounging. Breakfast is generous with plenty of variety, and if you’d rather stay in for dinner, there’s even a half-board option at the hotel.
